Detention after a shooting in Mexico City

A subject was detained on Tuesday in Mexico City after attempting to flee when surprised by police with bags similar to those used for drug trafficking. According to a statement from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of the capital, the officers were patrolling on Paseo de la Reforma Avenue and Magnolia Street when they saw some individuals inside a white vehicle manipulating suspected narcotic substances.

When they signaled them to stop for inspection, the driver of the car accelerated and fled until stopping on Libertad Street, in the Morelos neighborhood, where he tried to escape by running towards a property while shooting at the pursuing police officers. In response to the danger, the agents returned fire, injuring him, but he managed to enter a residential complex.

Finally, the police arrested the injured man, 45 years old, seizing a firearm with cartridges from him. Additionally, a 19-year-old woman was arrested in the vehicle, found with 50 doses of apparent marijuana after a search following police protocols. The detainee, with injuries to his back, left shoulder, and left calf, was taken to a hospital under custody for medical attention.

The woman, along with the weapon, the vehicle, and the alleged drugs, was placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry for the continuation of investigations and to determine her legal status. The police officer who was forced to repel the aggression was also presented to authorities to give a statement, while Internal Affairs began an internal investigation to clarify the facts and assist in the process.
